From April 8 to 12, 2024, students from the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the Catholic University of Bukavu designed a large-scale model of Bukavu. Working on this model was an opportunity to spark debate around the demographic boom expected to take place over the next ten years.

During the exhibition, our students and their supervisors demonstrated the urban planning challenges facing Bukavu, reminding us that the construction of a modern city must be based on a thorough understanding of demographic, climatic and environmental aspects.

In view of Bukavu’s estimated population growth, it will be difficult to accommodate all the city’s future inhabitants in a small area wedged between Lake Kivu and the surrounding mountains. Hence the need to extend the city to its outskirts, in strict compliance with town-planning standards.

In search of excellence, serving the community.
