The Regional Center for Interdisciplinary Studies Applied to Sustainable Development (Centre Régional d’Etudes Interdisciplinaires Appliquées au Développement durable) (CEREIAD) is one of the research centers operating within the Catholic University of Bukavu (UCB). With a regional vocation, CEREIAD brings together about twenty researchers established in the African Great Lakes region, namely Burundi, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Its mission is to contribute to the promotion of research on sustainable development in the Great Lakes region, to fight against soil and environmental degradation in general, to coordinate research activities in all key areas of rural development; to contribute to the restoration of soil fertility and capacity to increase their productivity and to improve food security of the populations of the entire region in general and of the DRC in particular.
