Conference on the analysis of the functioning of the political institutions resulting from the elections of 30 December, 2018 in DRC Date 17/03/2020 Comments 0 comment As part of its mission of serving the community, the Catholic University of Bukavu (UCB) organized a conference in Concordia Conference Hall in which Mr. Alfred MAISHA BISHOBIBIRHI and Paterne MURHULA BATUMIKE, respectively Member of Parliament (MP) and Professor at the Faculty of Law, responded to certain concerns of the population on the functioning of the political institutions resulting from the elections of 30 December, 2018 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Under the moderation of Mr NALUKOMA IRENGE Bertin, the Concordia Hall welcomed this Friday 13 March, 2020 an audience coming from different horizons and social groups including academic authorities, students, lawyers and other guests to debate on the functioning of the political institutions of the country. To engage the public in the mood of the day, the MP Alfred MAISHA first gave a brief description of the different political institutions of the country, starting from the presidency to the provincial assemblies. The MP elected from South Kivu enlightened the public on the necessity of the CACH-FCC coalition (alliance of two political groups having the majority of MPs in parliament) for the good governance of the country. In his explanations, he showed that this coalition was due to the lack of a parliamentary majority which forced the President of the Republic to widen his majority by opting for a coalition with the FCC platform which could not govern alone despite his parliamentary majority. Speaking, Dr. Paterne first thanked the MP Alfred Maisha for his availability as an expert and his goodwill to accompany UCB in carrying out its mission of serving the community. He congratulated UCB for this innovation which breaks down the barrier which seems to exist between the academic world and the professional political world. He also appealed to the population to fully understand and play their role in the governance of public affairs because politics is everyone’s business. The Doctor concluded by raising the need for civic and electoral education for public awareness fostering. In his closing remarks, the former Rector of UCB and Professor of Social Sciences, Priest Paul KADUNDU, encouraged the organizers to multiply these initiatives which aim to awaken the conscience of the population in order to achieve good results in the upcoming elections.
